Later on, John Thornton is lost in some fast river rapids, and once again Buck saves his master's life by swimming to him with a tow line. Pete and Hans—John Thornton's two partners as he pans for gold in the East. On the way a man falls down a hill and is killed. When returning to the campsite after strategically killing a bull moose, he finds Hans and Pete murdered, then sees Thornton has suffered the same fate—at the hands of a group of Native-American Yeehats.

As soon as another dog from his ship, Curly, gets off the boat, a pack of huskies violently attacks and kills her. And to sum it up, all the main characters but Buck are forgotten or die. At the same time, he develops a fierce rivalry with Spitz, the lead dog in the team. Buck's next change in life occurs when he and his team are sold to three amateur adventurers — Charles, Hal, and Mercedes; they have absolutely no concept of how to discipline the dogs or even how to drive a team through the frozen northern snow. Thornton warns them that the ice they are about to cross is thinning and that it is not safe to cross. Doctorow says the theme is based on Darwin 's concept of survival of the fittest.

Buck comes out of the backwoods once a year on the anniversary of his attack on the Yeehats, at the former campsite where he was last with Thornton, Hans, and Pete, in order to mourn their deaths—while each winter he heads the wolf-pack, wreaking vengeance on the Yeehats, "as he sings a song of the younger world, which is the song of the pack. The man in the red sweater had proved that. However, Buck decides not to join the wolves and elects to return to Thornton. The worst part was that it left me guessing about who E.

Buck then takes the lead dog position and gains trust from his team. It was heartbreaking, only Buck's heart The Call Of The Wild book unbreakable.

The Man in the Red Sweater, a trainer who beats Buck to teach him the law of the club. He had learned the lesson, and in all his afterlife he never forgot it. Hans and Pete John Thornton's partners; they accompany him on his expedition for the lost gold mine. By experience, the dog quickly learns the harsh new ways of man and beast, where you either fight to dominate or submit.

When released, Buck attacks his overseer, the "man in the red sweater", but this man teaches Buck the "law of the club", hitting Buck until he is sufficiently cowed although the man shows some kindness after Buck stops attacking. After Thornton takes him on trips to pan for golda bonanza king someone who struck it rich in the gold fieldsnamed Mr.

There's a brutality here that not all children will find to their taste, and modern American children are more likely to want to discuss the way Buck is treated than the way he acts.

Buck is shipped to Seattle. John is out in the search of gold. Buck is kidnapped by a gardener on the Miller estate and sold to dog traders, who teach Buck to obey by beating him with a club and, subsequently, ship him north to the Klondike. Spitz is unable to discipline him, but Buck, after rising to the head of the team, brings him into line.

Here, Buck is a beloved domesticated pet, living comfortably. Hal starts beating Buck and John Thornton threatens to kill him with his rifle.

The Call of the Wild

They quickened the old life within him, the old tricks which they had stamped into the heredity of the breed were his tricks One day Buck returns to find Thornton and his crew killed by Native Americans the novel calls Yeehats. He is disciplined by the Law of Club and Fang.

The story incorporates elements of age-old animal fables, such as Aesop's Fables The Call Of The Wild book, in which animals speak truth, and traditional beast fables, in which the beast "substitutes wit for insight". John and Buck found a cabin in the woods that had a gun in it that said E. After they kill John Thornton, Buck attacks them, and "dogs" them ever after, after going wild—making sure they never re-enter the valley where his last master was murdered.

Charles An inept middle-aged master of Buck's; Charles comes from the South, and he does not understand the ways of the North or how to handle dogs. Morals are all but forgotten, it is fine for Buck to steal, and you have to be violent to become the leader.

With too few dogs to continue, the mail-carrier sells the remaining three dogs, including Buck, to a trio of stampeders from the American Southland present-day contiguous United States —a spoiled woman named Mercedes, her sheepish husband Charles, and her arrogant brother Hal.

Would the book have been received differently? He recovers the instincts of his wild ancestors: The Call Of The Wild book learns to fight, scavenge for food, and sleep beneath the snow on winter nights.

Buck's instinct concerning the three amateur adventurers proves to be correct; Charles, Hal, and Mercedes continue on their way across the frozen snow and ice and lose their lives, plus the lives of the rest of the dog team when they try to cross a river of melting ice.

With the money that Thornton wins from his betting feat, sixteen hundred dollars, he goes deep into the wilderness in search of a fabled lost gold mine.Download Jack London.'s The Call of the Wild for your kindle, tablet, IPAD, PC or mobile.
